Multimedia and Virtual Design
  • - v Goals
The bachelor degree programme Multimedia/Product Design is aimed at entrepreneurial thinking designers for products of modern times. Creative persons and visionaries who want to think ahead and simulate real processes and who want to transport the results into reality. Multimedia/Product Design can be applied in all industries.
    v

The following fundamental idea forms the origin of our teachings:

Virtual reality can reproduce our environment or picture it in advance. The results of the research are meant to flow back into the real world and contribute to its modification. In order to ensure this we attach great importance to comprehending our world in its meaningfulness.

All individual areas of research are developed, designed, analysed, simulated or visualised in the 3D room. For this purpose we use the programmes 3D-Studio-Max, Catia, Maya, MudBox, Quest3D, Adobe Master Collection, WaveLab, Panorama Tools, programming tools and many small aids.

    Multimedia

The process of simulating the world with all senses grows with the ability of our fantasy as well as the development of science, society and technology.

Multimedia pursues the approach of including all human senses in the design process. This approach is already considered in the origination process of every product.

The word multimedia is a compound. However, it does not only refer to media but gets an additional dimension in our degree programme. Multimedia also means multicultural, intercontinental operation and communication

Creating Product Design in Virtual Reality

A picture says more than a thousand words – virtual reality says more than a thousand pictures. Thinking ahead (simulation, design determination) by means of computer technology is still in the early days of the origination process.

Virtual reality visualises abstract data and thus makes it tangible. Products and processes which do not actually exist become visible by means of computer science and complex contexts intuitively comprehendible. Apart from realistic and 3D worlds described in real time, visual criteria are tested, physical characteristics are calculated and products are tested for functioning.

Several technical-aesthetic variations in the serviceability can already be compared, tested and analysed during the design process. As a result design variants already experience improvements in the origination process of product development.

Therefore, virtual reality is medium and tool at the same time. Virtual reality enables simulation, evaluation and manipulation of data – whether it is a virtual prototype, the simulation of a production process or the visualisation of corporate data.
